We’re big fans of camping here at Monologue, so developing an iPhone guide for all other campers out there only felt natural (no pun intended). The application provides users with extensive lists of Greek campsites, including their photos, facilities, GPS locations and reviews. It also features pre-made checklists with everything you might need at camping, practically sorted in three categories depending on the number of days the user will be camping. There’s also a handy information screen with useful phone numbers and websites in the case they’re needed.

It was made clear from the beginning that I Love Camping’s interface shouldn’t look too high-tech. Instead, what we did was create a subtle mix of natural elements drawn in a comic, vintage fashion with each screen having a different theme, but in a way that none of them strays too far from the concept of camping. It features custom-made button icons, a pastel color palette that makes it pleasant and relaxing to look at, and a stencil-type icon that wraps up the vintage style and acts as the finishing touch.

I Love Camping is available at the App Store.

It’s always a good day at the office when your job is to create something for someone, that’s entirely yours in concept, design, and execution. For this year’s Greek Design and Illustration Awards (EBGE), we volunteered to produce the intro video for the Promotion category, which includes awards for Best Poster, Best Print Ad, Best Invitation, Best Cultural Event Program and Best Flyer (shown in this exact order in the video).

We never really experimented with abstract design in the past, at least not as much as we’d like to, so we figured this would be a good opportunity to do so. After a lot (and we mean, a lot) of playing around with shapes, materials, -our patience- and the overall look of the video, we came up with something that’s loosely described as a series of breathing, conceptual projections of each award in its most primitive form, sometimes more abstract, sometimes more literal, but hardly ever random.

mydescription—

The idea behind Apergies (Strikes) 2011 was conceived during the Winter of 2010, a period when mass transit strikes where an every day phenomenon in Greece. We thought about developing an iPhone application that would provide users with information regarding said ongoing strikes, making their everyday lives just a little bit easier.

After some initial rough sketches, we decided to split the interface in four screens, displaying daily strike information, strikes by day, strikes by type of transportation, and an About page respectively, all wrapped up in a kind of dark, decayed design that may be a little more sarcastic than your average iPhone interface, but it’s practical nonetheless. We followed the same approach with the application’s logo design as well, trying to convey as much information about the application’s purpose as we could, without getting too literal.

Apergies 2011 is available in the App Store. A free ad-supported version is available as well.

Illustrator Christina Tsevis is one of those artists who’ve put so much effort in mastering their craft (and still do), that makes their work instantly recognized by their distinctive style and technique.

Friendship aside, it’s probably one of the many reasons why we accepted to give a helping hand and turn her version of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll’s more than a century old fairytale for grownups, into an animation for her speech at 2010′s Panorama Design. The minute long clip feels like a surreal thrill ride through her illustrations (portraying some of the tale’s key scenes), with a half-dream, half-nightmare feeling that sits just right with Radiohead’s equally eerie soundtrack.

We’re big fans of alternative routes here at Monologue, so when we first laid eyes on The Flatmates, an Internet-only series about the lives of three young Athenians living together, we knew we wanted to be part of it, one way or the other. Since we’re not very good actors (at least, not all of us), we decided to approach the production team and treat them with a new opening sequence. The production company gladly accepted the offer, and a few weeks later, the second season of The Flatmates premiered online with all new adventures and a sparkling new opening.
