An Animated Arrow (Tutorial) To Rule Them All

Posted by Henry Grey on January 10, 2011 in Tutorials

For something so common and simple, animated arrows have long been a nightmare for After Effects users, at least those without access to 3D software or knowledge thereof. It almost always comes down to manually keyframing the position and rotation of the arrow’s head, making the task as painful as Japanese  pop. But what most people don’t know is a couple of  After Effects features that make the whole thing dead easy, automatic and customizable. Check out our tutorial to find out how.

A FAQ To Remember

Posted by Henry Grey on January 9, 2011 in General

I don’t get it. Is this a tutorials site or a blog?

Up.grade is a blog that includes (or will include) tutorials, among other things.

What’s the deal with all the gray text in the posts?

The gray text is Greek, our native language. We believe that, while motion design is steadily flourishing in Greece, its After Effects community is almost non-existent, so this is kind of our way of giving back. There are countless tutorials sites and After Effects blogs out there written in English, but none (that we know of) in Greek. Until we figure out a more decent way to operate a bilingual blog without having to put up with the mediocre translation tools out there, this will have to do.

After Effects Tip 1

Posted by Henry Grey on January 6, 2011 in Tips

Layers are pasted in the order they’re selected. If you select them from top to bottom, they will be pasted as such. If you select them from bottom to top, they will be pasted in reverse order.
